 Q. What do I need to do before an event?

A. Please sign up using the registration link for the event. This helps us get a rough headcount of how many volunteers to expect. We want to make sure we come appropriately prepared for our volunteers! Also check out our volunteer event checklist with important items such as water, long pants, sun protection, and closed toe shoes.

Q. What if there's a bad weather forecast for the event?

A. Our team will be at events rain or shine. Depending on the weather we may wait it out, scrap the event and try to reschedule, or look at alternative ways to serve that day. Most likely we will wait for about 30 minutes and decide the best path from there. No volunteers will be forced to work in weather they are not comfortable in or that would put them in serious danger. 

Q. What about excessive heat warnings for events?

A. If the heat is especially bad at an event, we will come prepared with water, cold treats, lots of breaks, and potentially end the event early. Volunteers are always encouraged to take breaks as needed and are welcome to leave events early if they are not feeling well. 

Q. What if I need to cancel or can't make it?

A. No worries! We understand life happens! We do appreciate a heads up email to  kparkv@kirkwoodmo.org if you have already registered. 

Q. What if I need to leave an event early or arrive late?

A. Not a problem! We are grateful for our volunteers making the time to help us and understand there's more in your schedule beyond volunteering. At all our events we have volunteers sign in and sign out so we can responsibly record our volunteer hours. Simply find our volunteer coordinator when you arrive and leave so we can make note of it!
